A devastating fire broke out early Sunday morning at a commercial office complex located in the heart of Awka, Anambra State, leaving extensive property damage and disrupting business operations in the area.
The blaze, which reportedly began around 3:30 AM, quickly engulfed the multi-storey building housing several private firms and government liaison offices. Eyewitnesses said the fire raged for over two hours before emergency responders from the Anambra State Fire Service arrived to contain the inferno.
No fatalities have been reported, but several individuals sustained minor injuries while attempting to salvage documents and equipment. Preliminary assessments suggest that millions of naira worth of assets may have been lost.
Director of ASEMA, Mrs. Ifeoma Okoye, confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. “We are working closely with the fire service and security agencies to uncover the source of the outbreak and ensure accountability,” she said.
Governor Charles Soludo expressed concern over the incident and directed immediate support for affected businesses. “We will not abandon those impacted. Relief and recovery efforts are underway,” the Governor stated in a press release.
