President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled for September 2026 in New York.

This high-level participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy, global peace, sustainable development, and strengthened international partnerships under the Tinubu administration’s foreign policy thrust of “Nigeria First” and enhanced economic diplomacy.

During the Assembly, President Tinubu is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the General Debate, addressing critical global issues including climate change, food security, peace and security in Africa, United Nations reforms, and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The President will also hold bilateral meetings with world leaders to deepen economic ties, attract foreign investments, and promote Nigeria as an investment destination.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, said: “President Tinubu’s attendance at the 81st UN General Assembly reflects his unwavering dedication to positioning Nigeria as a responsible and influential global actor. The forum provides an opportunity to champion African priorities on the world stage while advancing the administration’s economic reform agenda.”

The delegation will include key government officials, private sector leaders, and representatives from civil society to facilitate broad stakeholder engagement on Nigeria’s development priorities.

This year’s UNGA comes at a pivotal time as the world grapples with geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainties, and the urgent need for reformed global governance structures. Nigeria remains committed to constructive dialogue and collaborative solutions that benefit developing nations.
