The Federal Republic of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the Republic of Sierra Leone as Nigeria’s newly appointed High Commissioner, Her Excellency Mrs. Ayo Luther-Ogbomode, formally presented her Letters of Credence to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
The ceremony, which took place at State House in Freetown on July 9, 2026, underscores the strong historical, cultural, and economic bonds between the two West African nations and signals a renewed push for enhanced cooperation across key sectors.
During the presentation, the Nigerian envoy conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s warm greetings and Nigeria’s pledge to work closely with Sierra Leone to strengthen ties in trade, security, education, agriculture, and regional integration under the framework of ECOWAS.
“Nigeria remains fully committed to building even stronger and more productive relations with Sierra Leone. Our two countries share deep historical ties and a common vision for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous West Africa. We look forward to expanding collaboration for the mutual benefit of our peoples,” the High Commissioner stated.
President Bio welcomed the Nigerian High Commissioner and praised the longstanding partnership between the two nations. He highlighted Nigeria’s significant role in supporting Sierra Leone’s peace process and expressed eagerness to further strengthen cooperation, particularly as Sierra Leone benefits from Nigerian expertise and investment.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of people-to-people relations, enhanced trade flows, and joint efforts on regional challenges such as security, climate change, and economic development.
This diplomatic milestone is expected to open new avenues for Nigerian businesses in Sierra Leone and foster greater collaboration in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
Nigeria and Sierra Leone continue to enjoy robust fraternal relations rooted in shared values and a mutual desire for regional progress.
