Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as Nigeria’s new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). The appointment, announced as part of a strategic military reshuffle, has been widely celebrated across Ekiti State and beyond.

General Oluyede, a native of Ikere-Ekiti, previously served as Chief of Army Staff before being elevated to lead the nation’s defence architecture. His promotion is seen as a recognition of his distinguished military career and unwavering commitment to national security.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji described the appointment as “a welcome development and a testament to the exemplary qualities of the Ikere-Ekiti-born general.” He praised President Tinubu for acknowledging Oluyede’s courage, integrity, and loyalty—values the governor said are deeply rooted in Ekiti’s heritage.

“This appointment is not only a personal achievement for General Oluyede but also a proud moment for the people of Ekiti State,” Oyebanji stated. “We are confident that he will bring his wealth of experience and strategic insight to bear in strengthening Nigeria’s defence operations.”

Governor Oyebanji also urged the new CDS to leverage his leadership to chart a new course for the Armed Forces, particularly in addressing emerging security challenges and enhancing inter-agency collaboration.

The appointment of General Oluyede comes amid broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to revamp Nigeria’s security framework. Alongside Oluyede, new service chiefs were named for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, signaling a renewed commitment to national defence and operational efficiency.
