In a landmark display of political realignment, prominent leaders and thousands of supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State.
The historic ceremony took place on Sunday in Dutse, the state capital, where a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters gathered to welcome former two-term Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu and other key defectors into the ADC fold. Senator Nakudu, who represented Jigawa South-West Senatorial District and previously chaired the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) in the 9th National Assembly, resigned from the APC on Friday before receiving his ADC membership card on Sunday.
Accompanying Senator Nakudu were several high-profile figures, including former local government chairmen and advisers who had served under previous administrations.
Sources indicate that additional influential personalities, such as Mallam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim former NNPP gubernatorial candidate and a close associate of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso are expected to formally join the ADC in the coming days at a similar public event in his hometown.
Speaking after the formal reception, Senator Nakudu expressed gratitude to his supporters and outlined his vision for the future.
“I am grateful to my supporters for turning out en masse to receive me into my new party. I promise to work towards a greater Jigawa and the country at large,” he said.
He is widely expected to contest the 2027 governorship election on the ADC platform following extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state.
Jigawa State ADC Coordinator, Alhaji Ahmad Mahmud Gumel, described the defections as a significant boost to the party’s growing strength.
“This is not just about numbers it is about the coming together of experienced leaders and grassroots supporters who are tired of the status quo and are ready for genuine change, internal democracy, and people-focused development,” Gumel stated.
ADC chieftain Bashir Jumbo echoed the sentiment, welcoming the new members with assurances of equal opportunities.
“We pledge equal opportunities within the party structure. We must work together in unity to take over power in 2027 by the grace of God and deliver the New Dawn that Jigawa and Nigeria deserve,” he added.
The mass movement reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the current political arrangements in Jigawa and signals a rapidly consolidating opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections. The ADC continues to position itself as the viable alternative anchored on transparency, grassroots development, and inclusive governance.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) remains committed to building a stronger, more united Nigeria through principled leadership and genuine service to the people.
