The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division following public outrage over a viral video showing the officer slapping a young man during an arrest.

The incident, which occurred on October 22 and was widely circulated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), sparked condemnation from citizens and civil society groups who described the officer’s conduct as unprofessional and a violation of human rights.

In an official statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, expressed deep concern over the officer’s behavior, labeling it “unacceptable and contrary to the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.” The statement emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force holds its personnel to high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism.

“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the officer’s actions, which fall short of the high standards expected of law enforcement personnel,” SP Adeh stated.

The FCT Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and assured citizens that appropriate measures are being taken to address the situation. The Command reiterated its dedication to fostering trust between the police and the communities they serve.
