In a groundbreaking move to modernize electoral processes and enhance operational efficiency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled an Artificial Intelligence-powered virtual assistant ahead of the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 2025.

The digital innovation, known as the INEC Training Virtual Assistant (INECTrainingBot), is designed to provide 24/7 access to essential electoral training materials and interactive learning modules for INEC staff and stakeholders. The initiative is part of the Commission’s broader commitment to leveraging technology to ensure credible, transparent, and efficient elections.

According to INEC, the AI assistant is hosted on the Telegram platform, allowing users to engage with the bot in real time, access training content on demand, and receive instant responses to frequently asked questions related to electoral procedures. The tool is expected to significantly improve the preparedness of electoral officers, ad hoc staff, and other stakeholders involved in the Anambra election.

Speaking at the launch event, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu emphasized the importance of innovation in electoral management. “The INECTrainingBot is a testament to our commitment to smarter learning and operational excellence. As we approach the Anambra governorship election, we are determined to equip our personnel with the tools they need to deliver a free, fair, and credible poll,” he stated.

The Commission noted that the virtual assistant will complement existing training programs and serve as a reliable resource for continuous learning, especially in remote or underserved areas where physical training may be limited.

Civil society organizations and election observers have lauded the initiative, describing it as a forward-thinking step that could set a precedent for future elections across Nigeria. “This is a welcome development that aligns with global best practices in electoral administration,” said Amina Yusuf, Director of the Centre for Electoral Integrity.
