Inter Miami CF defender and Spanish football legend Jordi Alba has officially announced his retirement from professional football, marking the end of a remarkable 17-year career that spanned Europe and Major League Soccer.

Alba, 36, shared the news via Inter Miami’s official website and his personal social media accounts, stating: “This has been a thoughtful decision I’ve considered for a long time. I feel it’s the right moment to begin a new personal chapter and fully enjoy time with my family after so many demanding years in professional football.”

Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Alba has been a key figure in the club’s rise, contributing 14 goals and 38 assists and helping secure the Leagues Cup 2023 and Supporters’ Shield 2024. His retirement will take effect at the conclusion of the 2025 MLS Playoffs, where he aims to finish his final season on a high note.

Alba’s legacy is deeply rooted in his time with FC Barcelona, where he won six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey trophies, and the UEFA Champions League in 2015. Internationally, he was instrumental in Spain’s Euro 2012 victory, scoring in the final, and captained the national team to the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League title.

Inter Miami Managing Owner Jorge Mas praised Alba’s impact: “Jordi has been an exceptional addition to Inter Miami and one of the standout players in Major League Soccer over these two seasons. He will forever be a part of our Inter Miami family.”

Alba’s retirement follows that of teammate Sergio Busquets, making him the second of Lionel Messi’s longtime collaborators to step away this season. The trio’s reunion in Miami brought renewed excitement to MLS and elevated the club’s global profile.
