The Osun State Police Command has formally requested the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, to provide concrete evidence supporting his claim of an assassination attempt that allegedly occurred on Monday night in Osogbo.

According to a statement released by the Amotekun Corps, Mr. Omoyele narrowly escaped an ambush by unidentified gunmen around 10:05 p.m. along Ikirun Road, opposite Charity Hotel. The incident, described as a targeted attack, has sparked concern across the state’s security community.

In response, the Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the matter and urged Mr. Omoyele to submit verifiable proof to aid the inquiry. “We take all threats seriously, but we must follow due process. We’ve asked the Amotekun leadership to provide any surveillance footage, eyewitness accounts, or forensic evidence that can substantiate the claim,” said a senior police official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The request comes amid heightened tensions following recent clashes between Amotekun operatives and local residents in Akinlalu, which also prompted a separate police probe. Authorities are working to ensure that inter-agency cooperation remains intact while maintaining public trust in the state’s security apparatus.

Mr. Omoyele, who has yet to make a public appearance since the incident, is expected to meet with investigators later this week. The Amotekun Corps has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement.
