A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday at the Adidas Sports Store located within Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja, resulting in the destruction of merchandise estimated at over ₦6 billion. The blaze, which began around 3:00 a.m., was swiftly contained by emergency responders, preventing further damage to adjacent stores and infrastructure.
According to eyewitness accounts and official statements, the fire was confined to the Adidas outlet, sparing other sections of the mall. The Federal Fire Service (FFS), supported by the Julius Berger Fire Unit, battled the inferno for over six hours, demonstrating exceptional coordination and professionalism in their response.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed that officers were dispatched immediately upon receiving a distress call at 3:40 a.m. to secure the premises and prevent looting or public disorder.
Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, praised the bravery of the fire crews and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to protecting lives and property. “This incident could have escalated into a full-scale disaster. Our officers showed remarkable courage and skill under pressure,” he stated.
