The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested five individuals posing as private security operatives during a coordinated operation in Awka. The arrests were made on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, following credible intelligence reports indicating the presence of unauthorized personnel in security uniforms across several hotels and grocery stores.

According to State Commandant Maku Olatunde, the suspects were apprehended around 11 a.m. during a sweep aimed at curbing pre-election unrest. “These individuals were found wearing uniforms resembling those of legitimate security outfits and were allegedly hired by political actors to intimidate and destabilize the environment ahead of the November 8 governorship election,” Olatunde stated while parading the suspects at the NSCDC headquarters in Awka.

During the operation, officers recovered a pump-action rifle and other incriminating items. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement and possible links to political sponsors.

Olatunde emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. “We will not tolerate any attempt to compromise public safety or manipulate the democratic process through fear or intimidation,” he said.
