In a resounding show of support for Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has announced a ₦50 million cash gift to the team ahead of their decisive second-leg 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic.
The announcement was made during a special reception held at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where the Super Falcons were warmly welcomed ahead of their fixture at the MKO Abiola International Stadium. Governor Abiodun praised the team’s inspiring performances and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development in the state.
“We were delighted to receive the Super Falcons of Nigeria in our office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, ahead of their second-leg WAFCON 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic,” the governor stated. “In recognition of their inspiring performances and to further motivate them for the task ahead, we announced a support package of ₦50 million to the team.”
The Super Falcons, who secured a 2–0 victory in the first leg of the qualifier in Lomé, are poised to complete the job on home soil. The return leg is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM local time at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the team’s return to Abeokuta for such a high-stakes match is a testament to the state’s growing investment in sports infrastructure and talent development. He expressed confidence in the Falcons’ ability to deliver a stellar performance and secure qualification for the 2026 WAFCON tournament.
