In a decisive move to sustain leadership continuity and development momentum, the Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa for a second four-year term as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC).
The confirmation followed the presentation of a comprehensive report by the Senate Committee on Power, chaired by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe. The committee affirmed that Yelwa met all statutory requirements under Section 93 of the Electricity Act 2023 (as amended), and demonstrated competence, integrity, and relevant experience during his screening.
Senator Abaribe noted that Yelwa was articulate in his responses and cleared all security checks, with no adverse findings. The Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of his reappointment after President Bola Tinubu nominated him for a second term.
Yelwa’s first term at N-HYPPADEC was marked by initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment in hydroelectric power producing areas.
His reappointment signals a continued commitment to addressing the developmental challenges faced by communities impacted by hydroelectric power generation.
In a brief statement following his confirmation, Yelwa expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Senate for their confidence in his leadership. He pledged to intensify efforts to deliver on N-HYPPADEC’s mandate and ensure that affected communities benefit from inclusive and sustainable development.
