In a candid address following an on-the-spot assessment of road conditions in Ifo Local Government Area, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State acknowledged the widespread frustration over deteriorating road infrastructure, attributing the situation to years of neglect by previous administrations. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reversing the trend through strategic and sustained reconstruction efforts.
Governor Abiodun emphasized the enormity of the task, stating, “We cannot reconstruct all the bad roads in three years. No administration can fix all roads in eight years.” He called for patience from residents, assuring them that his government is working diligently to prioritize and rehabilitate critical road networks across the state.
The governor’s remarks come amid mounting public outcry and social media campaigns spotlighting the poor state of roads in Ogun. Viral images and videos have drawn attention to the hardship faced by commuters and businesses, prompting urgent calls for action.
He reiterated that the administration is not ignoring the problem but rather tackling it with a long-term vision that balances fiscal responsibility and infrastructure sustainability.
The governor also pledged to maintain open communication with citizens and stakeholders. “We are listening. We are responding. And we are committed to delivering roads that serve our people and support our economy,” he said.
Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, echoed the governor’s stance, noting that the state is actively reviewing contracts and mobilizing resources to accelerate road projects.
