Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has formally requested a new appearance date from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This follows the agency's declaration of him as wanted in connection with an alleged $14.8 million fraud.

In a letter dated November 24, 2025, and acknowledged by the EFCC on November 26, 2025, Sylva expressed concern over the wanted declaration. He cited a current medical emergency that requires urgent attention, preventing his immediate appearance. Sylva requested three weeks to recover and attend in person, emphasizing his commitment to cooperate fully with the investigation.

The EFCC declared Sylva wanted on November 10, 2025, after a Federal High Court in Lagos issued an arrest warrant on November 6, 2025. Sylva denies the allegations and insists the move to declare him wanted was unnecessary. He aims to clear his name through the proper channels.

"I am eager to address these matters directly with the Commission once my health permits," Sylva stated in the letter. He further noted that the health scare has temporarily hindered his ability to travel or engage in proceedings.

This development comes amid ongoing scrutiny of high-profile figures in Nigeria's petroleum sector. Sylva, who also served as Governor of Bayelsa State, maintains his innocence and calls for a fair process.
