The family of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has firmly rejected reports of his possible relocation from Abuja to Sokoto prison.

In a statement issued to the media, the family described the move as unacceptable and a deliberate attempt to further isolate Kanu from his legal team and supporters. They argued that such a transfer would not only complicate his ongoing trial but also expose him to heightened risks, given the volatile security situation in parts of the country.

The family emphasized that Kanu’s detention has already raised serious concerns about human rights violations, and relocating him to Sokoto would worsen his condition. They insisted that the government should instead focus on ensuring fair trial proceedings and respect for his fundamental rights.

They further appealed to the international community, human rights organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene and prevent what they termed an unjust and dangerous decision. According to the family, the relocation plan undermines the principles of justice and could inflame tensions across the country.

The statement concluded with a call for transparency and adherence to the rule of law, stressing that Nnamdi Kanu’s case must be handled with fairness and respect for due process.
