President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the postponement of his scheduled international engagements, including the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola.

The decision comes in response to escalating security challenges within Nigeria, particularly the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the violent attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

The President emphasized that safeguarding the lives and well-being of Nigerians remains his foremost priority. He stated that while international diplomacy is vital to Nigeria’s global standing, urgent domestic concerns demand his immediate attention. Tinubu underscored that the government is committed to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirls and restoring peace in affected communities.

In line with this commitment, President Tinubu has directed the deployment of additional military and police personnel to Kwara State, particularly Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area.

He has also ordered security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to intensify operations aimed at tracking down the perpetrators of the attacks. These measures reflect the administration’s resolve to confront insecurity with decisive action.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has been delegated to represent the President in Kebbi State, where he conveyed the government’s sympathy to affected families and communities.

The President assured Nigerians that his administration will not relent until those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice. He further reiterated his directive that the abducted schoolgirls must be rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

The postponement of these international trips highlights the delicate balance between Nigeria’s diplomatic responsibilities and the pressing need to address internal crises. While the President had been scheduled to engage with world leaders on economic and political cooperation, he affirmed that Nigeria’s security challenges must take precedence. This decision demonstrates the administration’s recognition that national stability is the foundation upon which international partnerships can thrive.

President Tinubu concluded by reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and strengthening national security. He called on Nigerians to remain resilient and united in the face of adversity.

Assuring them that the government is working tirelessly to restore peace and order. The President expressed confidence that with collective effort and determination, Nigeria will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.
