The Presidency has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will hold a high-level meeting with United States President Donald Trump in the coming days to address recent claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria. The meeting, confirmed by Special Adviser on Policy Communication Daniel Bwala, aims to clarify Nigeria’s position and reinforce its commitment to religious freedom and counterterrorism.

The announcement follows President Trump’s public remarks accusing the Nigerian government of neglecting attacks on Christian communities and threatening to cut off U.S. aid while considering military action against terrorist groups responsible for the violence.

In a statement shared via social media, Bwala emphasized that both leaders share a “strong commitment” to combating terrorism and insurgency. He noted that the meeting will focus on “strengthening counterterrorism collaboration and correcting misconceptions about the nature of terrorist attacks in Nigeria.”

President Tinubu is expected to reaffirm his administration’s dedication to protecting all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation. The Presidency reiterated that Nigeria’s security strategy is rooted in inclusivity and human rights, and that the government has taken significant steps to address violence perpetrated by extremist groups.

The meeting may take place either at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja or the White House in Washington, D.C., depending on final diplomatic arrangements. It will also serve as an opportunity to discuss broader security cooperation, including arms sales and intelligence sharing.

This diplomatic engagement comes amid heightened international scrutiny and calls for transparency regarding religious violence in Nigeria. Human rights organizations and faith-based groups have urged both governments to prioritize civilian protection and accountability.
