In response to the recent wave of U.S. visa revocations under President Donald Trump’s administration, former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has issued a public advisory urging affected Nigerians and other Africans to return home immediately to avoid potential arrest by U.S. immigration authorities.

According to reports, the U.S. State Department has revoked over 80,000 visas since January 2025, citing tightened immigration policies and increased scrutiny of foreign nationals. Many of those affected are believed to be from African countries, including Nigeria.

Senator Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share his concerns. He wrote: “Nigerians and other thousands of Africans whose visas were recently revoked by President Trump should hasten and leave the country and return home before they get arrested by ICE… No matter how long you live in the comfort of your adopted home, you will someday be reminded that it’s not your father’s house.”

Sani’s message comes amid growing fears that individuals with revoked visas may face detention or deportation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Legal experts warn that remaining in the country without valid documentation could lead to serious consequences, including long-term bans and legal action.

The senator’s remarks have sparked conversations across social media and diaspora communities, with many echoing his sentiment that home remains a place of dignity and safety. While acknowledging the challenges of returning, Sani emphasized the importance of avoiding unnecessary legal troubles abroad.
