The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has officially launched a comprehensive security operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring public safety across the territory. This decisive action follows a surge in reported criminal activities and growing concerns among residents.

The operation, which began on September 8, 2025, involved simultaneous raids across multiple divisions including Gwagwalada, Kubwa, Nyanya, Apo, Karmo, Maitama, Mabushi, Dawaki, Galadima, Asokoro, Karu, Jikwoyi, Mpape, Lokogoma, and Utako. Law enforcement officers targeted known black spots and suspected hideouts, resulting in the arrest of 71 suspects.

During the raids, officers recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis. All suspects are being screened and interrogated, with those found culpable to be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale emphasized the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and community safety. “This operation is part of our strategic efforts to dismantle criminal networks and ensure that Abuja remains safe for all residents,” he stated.

In addition to the police-led initiative, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reinforced its support by continuing the clearance of illegal structures and shanties that serve as criminal hideouts. The FCTA Development Control Department, Security Services, and Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) have jointly removed illicit structures and impounded vehicles in high-risk zones.

Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, affirmed that the clearance exercise will be sustained to prevent the resurgence of criminal elements. “We are committed to maintaining both the security and aesthetic integrity of the capital,” he said.
