The Federal Government has issued a strong statement condemning former presidential candidate Peter Obi for his reported support of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed military intervention in Nigeria.
In an official communication released today, government spokespersons emphasized that Obi’s stance represents a betrayal of national sovereignty and undermines Nigeria’s democratic institutions. The statement declared that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu views Obi’s position as “unpatriotic and indefensible,” adding that such endorsement of foreign military involvement in domestic affairs will not be forgotten or forgiven.
The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s independence and warned against political figures aligning with external powers in ways that could destabilize the nation. Officials stressed that Nigeria’s security challenges must be addressed internally, through dialogue, reform, and strengthened institutions, rather than through foreign intervention.
The press release concluded by urging citizens to remain vigilant against divisive rhetoric and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s dedication to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty, unity and democratic values.
