United States Congressman Riley Moore has issued a strong rebuke of the Nigerian government, accusing it of failing to protect Christian communities despite receiving billions of dollars in military assistance from the United States. Moore’s remarks were made during a televised interview on The Dinesh D’Souza Show, where he expressed deep concern over the continued violence targeting Christians in Nigeria.

Moore, who chairs a special investigative committee established by President Donald Trump to examine religious persecution globally, highlighted what he described as “systemic neglect” by Nigerian authorities in addressing the killings of Christians. “My brothers and sisters in Christ are murdered for practising their faith and belief in our Lord Jesus Christ,” Moore stated, calling out years of silence from both Nigerian officials and the international community.

The Congressman’s comments come amid growing scrutiny of Nigeria’s human rights record and its designation as a “Country of Particular Concern” under the U.S. International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. This designation, announced by President Trump on October 31, 2025, allows for sanctions against nations found to be committing severe violations of religious freedom.

Moore warned that the unchecked violence could have broader geopolitical consequences. “If we don’t address this, and some terrorists take hold in Nigeria, I promise you, we would have a much larger problem on our hands,” he cautioned.

The Nigerian government has yet to issue an official response to Moore’s allegations. However, the remarks have sparked renewed debate over the effectiveness of U.S. foreign aid and the accountability mechanisms tied to military assistance.
