In a bold declaration of reform and renewal, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad, the newly appointed Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has pledged to eradicate impunity and restore constitutional integrity within the party. His remarks came during the inauguration of the PDP’s new Board of Trustees held at the residence of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
Muhammad, formerly the National Vice Chairman (North Central), assumed leadership following the suspension of former Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum by a faction led by PDP National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu. Addressing party stalwarts and stakeholders, Muhammad described the event as “a symbol of rebirth” and the beginning of a new era of transparency, accountability, and unity.
“We must put an end to impunity, manipulation, and disregard for our constitution,” Muhammad stated. “This is the time to heal wounds, rebuild trust, and reposition the PDP as a credible alternative for Nigerians.”
The inauguration was attended by prominent figures including Samuel Ortom, former Governor of Benue State; Mao Ohuabunwa, former Senator representing Abia North; and other senior party members. Their presence underscored the significance of the moment and the collective resolve to steer the PDP toward internal cohesion and electoral relevance.
Muhammad emphasized that his leadership would prioritize reconciliation among aggrieved members, adherence to party rules, and strategic planning ahead of the 2027 general elections. He called on all factions to set aside differences and work toward a unified vision for the party’s future.
This renewed commitment comes at a critical juncture for the PDP, which has faced internal divisions and leadership tussles in recent months. Muhammad’s emergence signals a potential turning point, with hopes of restoring the party’s foundational values and reconnecting with its grassroots base.
