The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that suspected bandits carried out a brazen attack on Adanla community, a suburb of Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area, resulting in the abduction of at least seven residents.
The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, December 26, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., when armed assailants invaded the area, firing sporadically to instill fear and moving house-to-house to abduct victims.
According to initial reports, several residents sustained gunshot injuries during the raid, including a woman who was wounded while attempting to escape. Many families fled into nearby bushes and neighboring communities for safety amid the chaos. Some accounts suggest the number of abductees may be as high as eight, and efforts are underway to verify the exact figures.
"The Kwara State Police Command is deeply concerned about this unfortunate incident and is working tirelessly with other security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals," said SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command.
"We have mobilized additional personnel to the area and are collaborating with local vigilantes, hunters, and the Nigerian Army's 22 Armoured Brigade, whose soldiers responded swiftly to support operations on the ground."
Community leader Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch Network, played a key role in alerting authorities and mobilizing local defenses shortly after the attack began around 7:30 p.m. The police urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest station.
Investigations are ongoing, and the Command assures the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent future occurrences. The safety and security of Kwara State residents remain our top priority.
