President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to addressing Nigeria's security challenges, emphasizing the nation's deep religious faith and prayerful spirit as key elements in surmounting ongoing threats.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at his Lagos residence on Friday, December 26, 2025, the President highlighted ongoing reforms in the security architecture, including the establishment of state and community policing, which he assured will soon yield tangible results.
"The mood of the nation is peaceful, although our ungoverned spaces are so large. The challenge is real, but we will surmount it," President Tinubu stated. "We are very religious. We are prayer warriors. We need your focus, vigilance, and cooperation." He underscored that as a prayerful and religious nation, Nigeria will overcome insecurity through collective efforts, divine providence, and strategic government interventions.
The President detailed the administration's proactive measures, noting that community and state police will become a reality once the National Assembly completes the necessary legislative processes.
He addressed delays in acquiring military hardware, such as four attack helicopters ordered from the United States and additional support sought from Turkey, explaining that these are due to high costs and availability issues but do not diminish the government's resolve. Despite the guerrilla tactics employed by bandits and insurgents, President Tinubu assured that peace and prosperity will be restored across the country.
Commenting on the recent abduction and release of schoolchildren in Niger and Kebbi states, the President called for continued vigilance from communities and stakeholders, stating, "The rhetoric on how the children were released or what happened to the kidnappers is secondary; the end justifies the means."
The CAN delegation, led by President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, expressed full support for the administration's efforts. "You are our President. The Church has no choice but to support you and your administration," Archbishop Okoh said.
He commended President Tinubu's commitment to bridging the gap between the government and the Church, acknowledging the receipt of palliatives and urging direct engagement through CAN's structures in all 774 local governments.
President Tinubu's remarks build on his recent Christmas message, where he prayed for peace among differing religious beliefs and reaffirmed commitments to religious freedom, national unity, and stability under God and the Constitution. The administration remains focused on collaborating with religious institutions to prevent conflicts and promote peaceful coexistence.
