In a significant step towards combating drug trafficking and abuse in the region, the Bauchi State Police Command today handed over a suspected narcotics dealer, Mr. Ogbu Simon, along with approximately 161kg of seized illicit drugs valued at N12,200,000, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Bauchi State Command.
The handover ceremony took place at the Command Headquarters in Bauchi, presided over by Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu. This action follows the arrest of the suspect on November 26, 2025, at approximately 2000 hours, based on credible intelligence from a concerned citizen regarding suspicious sacks being loaded at a shop in Ningi town, Ningi Local Government Area.
A team of detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ningi, CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, conducted a strategic raid on the premises, resulting in the recovery of four bags containing suspected Diazepam (D5) and Tramadol tablets The suspect, alleged to be supplying narcotics from Onitsha in Anambra State to Ningi and surrounding areas, was apprehended by the Operation Restore Peace (ORP) unit. During interrogation, Mr. Ogbu Simon confessed to his involvement in drug dealing.
Speaking at the briefing, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu emphasized the Command's commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes: "I am most delighted to welcome you all to this briefing which, as partners in public interest, provides us an opportunity to yet again interface towards intimating members of the public the sustained and unwavering efforts of the Bauchi State Police Command towards combating crime and criminality in the state.
During the month under review, the Command has fought tirelessly in raising policing standards, which has led to significant milestones in the combat against crime and criminality. Worthy of note is the successful operation that led to the arrest of a drug dealer in Ningi LGA. The Command has apprehended Mr. Ogbu Simon, a suspected narcotics dealer, and recovered 161kg of illicit drugs."
He further assured the public: "Consequently, I affirm our unwavering commitment to combating drug-related crimes. I urge members of the public to remain calm and continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the prevention, mitigation, and control of crime and criminality."
Receiving the suspect and exhibits on behalf of the NDLEA State Commander, Deputy Commander DCN Usaini Umaru commended the collaborative efforts: "On behalf of the State Commander, NDLEA, I wish to show our appreciation to the State Police Command for the prompt transfer of the case of unlawful possession of psychotropic substances suspected to be Tramadol capsules and D5 tablets. We assure you of the continuous collaboration, and we continue to work together to bring all perpetrators of illicit drug trafficking to justice."
DCN Umaru also highlighted the importance of community involvement: "The most challenging we have is that of the communities, NDLEA alone cannot do this job; there must be synergy, both from the stakeholders and every other person concerned.
These drugs are found within the communities, and dealers are in the communities. Until the communities help us to identify them, we cannot do anything, but we assure them that there will be no problem if they volunteer information about the dealers.”
This operation underscores the ongoing synergy between the Bauchi State Police Command and the NDLEA in tackling the menace of drug trafficking, which poses a severe threat to public health and security in the state.
The Bauchi State Police Command remains dedicated to upholding law and order, protecting lives and property, and fostering partnerships with other security agencies and the community to ensure a safer environment for all residents.
