NFF Pays Tribute to Super Eagles Captain William Troost-Ekong on His Retirement

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) today issued a heartfelt tribute to Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong following his announcement of immediate retirement from international football on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The NFF recognizes Troost-Ekong's exemplary service, which spanned a decade and left an indelible mark on Nigerian football.







Troost-Ekong, who made his international debut in 2015, captained the Super Eagles with unwavering commitment. Even before assuming the captaincy, Troost-Ekong stood out as a pleasant, disciplined, and ambitious team member. He wore the green-and-white jersey with immense joy, zest, and focus, inspiring his peers and fans alike.







His standout performances in the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2019, 2021, and 2023 serve as a benchmark for aspiring footballers.
