Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been formally arraigned and ordered to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending further hearing, following fresh charges brought against him by federal authorities.

Dr. Ngige appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja where he faced multiple counts linked to alleged misconduct during his tenure in office. The prosecution urged the court to deny bail due to what it described as the gravity of the offences and the need to ensure the defendant’s appearance in future proceedings.

After reviewing submissions, the presiding judge ruled that Dr. Ngige be kept in Kuje Prison until the next adjourned date, when his bail application and the substantive matter will be addressed.

The arraignment marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to pursue accountability in public office. Authorities have assured Nigerians that due process will be strictly followed and that the defendant’s rights will be protected throughout the judicial process.
