Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has categorically rejected recent media reports alleging his involvement in terrorism financing.
Malami described the claims as baseless, misleading, and politically motivated, stressing that he has never been investigated, interrogated, or charged by any security or intelligence agency within or outside Nigeria in relation to terrorism financing.
In response to a publication linking his name to alleged terror financiers, Malami issued the following remarks: Malami dismissed the report as a “vague assertion manipulated for political purposes.” He emphasized that the retired military officer cited in the report did not accuse him directly, but rather referenced unspecified “business or institutional relationships” involving certain individuals.
He reiterated that his tenure as Attorney-General was marked by a strong commitment to the rule of law and national security. Malami underscored that his record in public office contradicts any suggestion of complicity in terrorism financing.
Malami criticized the framing of the allegations, describing them as an attempt to tarnish his reputation and distract from his contributions to Nigeria’s justice system.
Malami has never been accused, invited, interrogated, or investigated by any Nigerian or foreign authority over terrorism financing. He insists the allegations are politically driven and unfounded, aimed at damaging his public image. The report in question originated from a retired military officer’s claims, which Malami says were misrepresented and exaggerated.
Malami reaffirmed his dedication to Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and his commitment to justice. He urged the public and media to exercise caution in spreading unverified claims, noting that such allegations undermine national unity and the integrity of public institutions.
“I state clearly and unequivocally that I have never at any time been linked to terrorism financing. These allegations are false, politically motivated, and inconsistent with my record of service to Nigeria,” Malami concluded.
