The Federal Government of Nigeria today arraigned former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, and her associate, Gloria Odita, before the Abuja High Court on a five-count charge of alleged fraud, obtaining money by false pretence, and criminal breach of trust. The charges stem from actions allegedly taken in January and February 2014, involving the misappropriation of approximately N2.469 billion from the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
According to the prosecution, Oduah and Odita conspired to obtain N839,780,738.90 on January 13, 2014, and N1,629,250,000 on February 12, 2014, through companies Broad Waters Resources Nigeria Ltd and Global Offshore Marine Ltd. They allegedly falsely represented these funds as payments for "Cost of Technical Supervision" and "Security Integrated and Logistics Support Services," knowing the claims to be untrue.
These acts violate Sections 8(a) and 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and are punishable under Section 1(3), as well as contrary to Section 311 and punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all counts. The court granted bail to Oduah and Odita on self-recognition, requiring them to deposit their international travel documents with the court registry and obtain permission for any international travel. The case has been adjourned until February 12, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice remains committed to upholding the rule of law and combating corruption at all levels of government. This arraignment underscores the government's resolve to ensure accountability for public officials and protect national resources.
