The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) today announced that Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will receive his outstanding salaries and bonuses imminently, ensuring full focus on the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. This resolution addresses recent reports of arrears spanning three months, allowing the team to prepare without distractions.
The NFF emphasized its commitment to supporting Coach Chelle, who has led the Super Eagles since his appointment in January 2025. Under his guidance, Nigeria secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup playoffs and aims for a strong performance at AFCON, where the team seeks its fourth continental title after wins in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
A senior NFF official stated, "We have secured the necessary funds, and payment will occur soon. Coach Chelle understands the process, and we appreciate his patience as we finalize the cash backing required." The federation clarified that the National Sports Commission handles salary disbursements, while the NFF manages bonuses, and both entities collaborate to resolve such matters efficiently.
As preparations intensify, the Super Eagles open camp in Egypt on December 10, 2025, ahead of an unofficial friendly against Egypt on December 16. The final 28-man squad, drawn from a 54-player provisional list, must submit by December 11. Nigeria competes in Group C against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda, with their opening match against Tanzania on December 23 in Fès.
