Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, has officially announced his interest in vying for the Kogi Central Senatorial District seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

This declaration comes as Bello seeks to continue his service to the people of Kogi State at the federal level, building on his legacy of infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and security enhancements during his tenure as governor from 2016 to 2024.

In a statement released today, Bello expressed his commitment to representing the interests of Kogi Central, emphasizing unity, progress, and inclusive governance for the Ebira people and beyond.

"I have heard the calls from my people and stakeholders across Kogi Central to step forward and provide leadership in the Senate," Bello said. "My administration transformed Kogi State, and I am ready to bring that same energy to Abuja to advocate for better policies, economic opportunities, and equitable resource allocation for our district."

The announcement has garnered support from local leaders, including the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Hon. Amoka Eneji, who described Bello's ambition as being "in the interest of all" and congratulated him on his decision.

Earlier today, current Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo presented Bello to the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate, signaling strong party backing for his bid.

Bello's entry into the race sets the stage for a competitive contest in Kogi Central, currently represented by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who made history as the first female senator from the district. Political analysts anticipate a vibrant campaign focused on development issues, with Bello leveraging his experience and grassroots support.

As preparations for the 2027 elections intensified, Bello urged party faithful and residents to remain united and focused on delivering dividends of democracy. Further details on his campaign platform and events will be shared in the coming weeks.
