It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Macclesfield FC announces the passing of our beloved forward, Ethan McLeod, aged 21, following a tragic car accident.

Ethan was involved in a fatal collision on the M1 motorway while traveling home from our National League North match against Bedford Town on the evening of December 16, 2025. Despite the swift response of emergency services, Ethan succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The club extends its deepest sympathies to Ethan's family, friends, and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.

A product of the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy, Ethan joined Macclesfield FC in 2024 and quickly became a key figure in our squad with his skill, dedication, and infectious enthusiasm on and off the pitch. His contributions to the team, including memorable goals and assists, will forever be etched in the history of our club. Ethan was not just a talented footballer but a kind-hearted individual who embodied the spirit of perseverance and camaraderie.

Club Chairman Robert Smethurst said: "Ethan was a shining light in our team and our community. His passion for the game and his warm personality touched everyone he met. We are devastated by this loss and will honor his memory in everything we do moving forward."

Head Coach Robbie Savage added: "Losing Ethan is heartbreaking. He had so much potential and was a joy to coach. Our thoughts are with his family, and we will support them in any way we can."

In light of this tragedy, Macclesfield FC will observe a minute's silence at our next home fixture, and players will wear black armbands in Ethan's honor. The club is also working with the relevant authorities as investigations into the accident continue.

Counseling services have been made available to players, staff, and supporters affected by this news. Fans wishing to pay tribute are encouraged to do so via the club's official social media channels or at the stadium memorial that will be set up in the coming days.
