The Police Service Commission (PSC) today announced the successful conclusion of a high-level stakeholders meeting aimed at kickstarting the recruitment of 50,000 new officers into the Nigeria Police Force. Held at the PSC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, the gathering brought together key partners to outline a seamless, fair and inclusive process.
The meeting featured representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Federal Character Commission. PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd) was represented by DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), a Board Member and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters. Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, led her delegation and expressed strong support for the initiative.
"This strategic session underscores our dedication to building a stronger, more diverse police force," said DIG Lakanu. "We commit to an open process that enhances capacity while embracing inclusivity across all facets of Nigerian society."
PSC Spokesman Torty Njoku highlighted the focus on transparency and credibility. "Our recruitment will prioritize fairness, equity, and merit, ensuring every step is technology-driven and free from interference," Njoku stated. Participants agreed to integrate advanced digital tools for applications and screenings, making the process accessible to all Nigerians.
A key emphasis was placed on gender inclusivity. The PSC pledged deliberate measures to attract and support qualified female candidates, aiming to reflect Nigeria's diverse population in the force. Additionally, strict adherence to Federal Character principles will guarantee equitable representation from all states and geopolitical zones.
Dr. Ogbonnaya added, "The Ministry is optimistic about this collaboration. Together, we will deliver a recruitment exercise that promotes national unity and meets public expectations."
The PSC assures prospective applicants that the process will comply with all laws and guidelines, with full accountability at every stage. Timelines and application details will be released soon via official channels.
