Nigerian Army troops successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Forward Operating Base in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area. The incident took place late on Friday, December 12, 2025.
Operation Hadin Kai forces detected the assault early. Terrorists deployed two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) in an attempt to breach the base. However, vigilant troops neutralized both VBIEDs before they caused damage. A fierce firefight ensued, resulting in the death of several terrorists. Others sustained injuries and fled the scene.
In the aftermath, troops conducted a clearance operation with support from the Nigeria Police Crack Team and Civilian Joint Task Force. They recovered significant items, including AK-47 rifles, ammunition, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication devices, medical supplies, and combat gear. No military personnel suffered casualties during the engagement.
Lt. Col. Sani Uba, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, commended the troops for their bravery. "Our forces remain resolute in defending the nation against terrorist threats," he stated. "This successful repulsion demonstrates our commitment to restoring peace in the region."
The Nigerian Army continues intensified patrols to dominate the area and ensure civilian safety. Residents are urged to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
