Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the move is driven by his commitment to the development of Rivers State and the need to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during a briefing with stakeholders and party leaders, Governor Fubara said his defection was not motivated by personal interest but by a desire to secure greater political stability, federal collaboration, and accelerated development for the people of Rivers State.

According to him, “Our decision is about the future of Rivers State. We need to work hand-in-hand with the Federal Government to attract more projects, strengthen our economy, and ensure lasting peace. Joining the APC is a strategic step to guarantee the progress our people deserve.”

Governor Fubara noted that the state’s current development priorities—including infrastructure expansion, job creation, security improvements, and investment attraction—require strong synergy with the federal leadership. He emphasized that President Tinubu has demonstrated openness and willingness to support states regardless of political differences, making alignment both timely and necessary.

He also stated that political disagreements and internal conflicts within the PDP created distractions that hindered the administration’s long-term goals. “We must rise above conflicts and embrace a political environment that allows us to deliver. My loyalty remains with the people of Rivers State, and every decision I take is for their benefit,” he added.

The Governor expressed confidence that the move to APC would strengthen governance, deepen democratic participation, and foster unity across the state’s political landscape.
