Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke today extended heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole on his recommendation for appointment to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The governor described the elevation as a well-deserved recognition of Oyewole's exemplary service and a moment of immense pride for the people of Osun State.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke praised Justice Oyewole's unwavering integrity and dedication to the judiciary. "I heartily congratulate Hon. Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole on his appointment to the bench of the Supreme Court," Adeleke said.

"Hon. Justice Oyewole is an embodiment of integrity, and his commitment to justice is unparalleled." He further noted that the appointment reflects Oyewole's long standing professionalism and his consistent track record in administering justice over more than two decades.

Justice Oyewole, born on May 13, 1965, in Ila Orangun, Osun State, currently serves as the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division. He began his judicial career as a judge of the Lagos State High Court in 2001 and was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2014.

Known for landmark rulings, including the conviction of Chief Bode George in 2009 and upholding the sacking of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Oyewole has played a key role in reforming Nigeria's Administration of Criminal Justice law.

The National Judicial Council recommended Oyewole for the Supreme Court position during its 110th meeting held between January 13 and 14, 2026, presided over by Chief Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.

Governor Adeleke expressed confidence in Oyewole's ability to excel at the apex court, stating, "Going by his antecedents in effectively and dispassionately dispensing justice in over two decades on the bench, I have no iota of doubt that Hon. Justice Oyewole will excel in this new role."

This appointment underscores Osun State's contributions to Nigeria's judicial landscape and highlights the importance of integrity in public service.
