In a decisive move to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the immediate sacking of the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Amari Omaka (SAN), along with the dissolution of the entire political and traditional leadership structure in the Amasiri community of Afikpo Local Government Area.
This action follows a violent attack on Okporojo Village, which resulted in multiple fatalities linked to a longstanding boundary dispute.
The governor, during an on-the-spot assessment of the affected area, expressed deep concern over the recurring violence, stating that he has been "pushed to the wall" and will not tolerate actions that endanger the peace of the state.
"This is most unfortunate. I never expected that the people of Amasiri would turn their guns on their brothers and sisters," Nwifuru remarked, emphasizing the need for unity and peaceful coexistence.
As part of the measures, Governor Nwifuru announced the dissolution of the Amasiri Town Development Union and its executive members, the withdrawal of the certificate of recognition for the traditional ruler of Amasiri, and the removal of all village heads across the Amasiri autonomous communities.
Additionally, all government appointees from Amasiri, including management committee members, have been relieved of their duties. These steps are aimed at dismantling structures that may have contributed to the escalation of the conflict and ensuring accountability.
The recent killings, which claimed at least four lives, have heightened tensions in the region, prompting the governor to prioritize security and reconciliation.
"We love all our people, but we will not tolerate actions that endanger peace," Nwifuru affirmed, calling on residents to support efforts toward lasting harmony.
