Residents of several communities in eastern Sokoto State flee their homes amid fresh threats from notorious bandit leader Bello Turji. The warnings trigger widespread panic and displacement after months of relative calm.

Communities in Isa Local Government Area bear the brunt of the crisis. Tidibale village sees families abandon homes and farmlands. Additionally villages like Bargaja, Bafarawa, Kamara, Arume, and Kagara face similar dangers. Turji demands evacuation or risks violence against those who stay.

Bandits have launched attacks in recent days. They kill two people and abduct several others in Bargaja village. In Taka-Tsaba, gunmen strike at night and kidnap at least 10 residents, mostly girls. Furthermore attackers behead a village head in Tudun Wada. These incidents intensify fear across the region.

Residents share stories of devastation. One local states that Turji devastates entire wards like Tidibale. Videos capture civilians fleeing with minimal possessions. Many seek refuge in Isa town, Gidan Hamisu, and neighboring Shinkafi in Zamfara State.

Security forces respond to the threats. Police confirm killings in Isa community and deploy personnel to affected areas. Military operations target Turji's hideouts near the Niger border. Airstrikes and ground efforts increase to curb the violence.

Analysts note Turji's attempts to reassert control. The Nigerian Defence Headquarters describes him as a "dead man walking" and vows to eliminate the threat. However, residents express frustration over ongoing insecurity.

Communities urge stronger government intervention. Leaders must tackle root causes like poverty and porous borders. With sustained action, authorities can restore peace and allow safe returns.
