Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced their agreement to testify before the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein. The decision averts a potential contempt of Congress vote scheduled for later this week.

Angel Ureña, Deputy Chief of Staff to President Clinton, confirmed the development in a post on X. "The former President and former Secretary of State will be there," Ureña stated. "They look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone."

The subpoenas, issued by Committee Chairman James Comer in August 2025, required depositions in October of that year. The Clintons initially resisted, citing concerns over the probe's motivations.

Attorneys proposed a transcribed interview for President Clinton and a sworn declaration for Secretary Clinton, but Chairman Comer rejected the offer, insisting on full depositions.

In January 2026, the committee advanced bipartisan resolutions to hold both in contempt. The full House prepared to refer the matter to the Department of Justice. This agreement follows negotiations and ensures compliance with the subpoenas on mutually agreeable dates.

The Clintons have denied any knowledge of Epstein's criminal activities and emphasize their commitment to transparency. This marks the first congressional testimony by a former president since Gerald Ford in 1983.
