The City of Tshwane has successfully restored power supply to the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Pretoria after the diplomatic mission settled its outstanding municipal utility bills.

This resolution underscores the city's commitment to fair and consistent enforcement of credit control measures while maintaining positive diplomatic relations.

The electricity disconnection occurred earlier today as part of the ongoing #TshwaneYaTima campaign, aimed at recovering debts from high-profile consumers with significant arrears. Executive Mayor Dr. Nasiphi Moya announced the action on social media, stating that the High Commission owed the city for utility services.

Following prompt payment by the Nigerian High Commission, the city promptly reconnected the electricity, ensuring minimal disruption to diplomatic operations.

"We appreciate the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for honoring its debt to the city," said Mayor Moya. "This swift resolution demonstrates mutual respect and cooperation between our nations. The city will continue to enforce its policies equitably to ensure sustainable service delivery for all residents and entities."

The #TshwaneYaTima initiative is a proactive effort by the City of Tshwane to address non-payment of municipal services, promoting financial accountability across all sectors, including diplomatic missions. This incident highlights the importance of timely payments to support the city's infrastructure and public services.
