Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now free from the influence of individuals he described as "vagabonds" who disrupted the party's progress.
Speaking during a public address in Ibadan, Governor Makinde emphasized that these elements, which emerged prominently in 2015, have been expelled from the party as of November 2025.
"The vagabonds in the PDP grew up in 2015. They had their time, and for 10 years they practised 'vagabondage' in the PDP. But they were expelled in November 2025. So, no more vagabonds in the PDP," stated Governor Makinde.
His remarks appear to target former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and his allies, following Wike's recent comments expressing interest in PDP activities in Oyo State.
Governor Makinde further questioned Wike's contributions to the PDP in his home state, saying, "Someone said he has interest in PDP in Oyo State. Ask him what has he done for the PDP in Rivers State that he comes from?"
He likened the situation to a Yoruba proverb, adding, "Omo Alakisa tohun jo lo ru, mo pe boya Ile a mo basin," implying that those causing unrest are like ragged figures dancing in the night, unaware that dawn is approaching.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, dismissing rumors of defection and stating that the party's internal cleansing will strengthen it for future challenges. This development comes amid ongoing efforts to rebuild the PDP following recent defections and leadership disputes.
