Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has made a strong appeal for adherence to the principle of power rotation between Nigeria's northern and southern regions, emphasizing that no candidate from the North should contest the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

In his remarks, Governor Fintiri stressed that fairness and equity in leadership are essential for sustaining national unity and stability. He stated: "Nobody in the North has business contesting for the presidency at the moment. It is the South's turn; they should complete their eight years if we are really serious about this country and leadership."

The Governor's position aligns with longstanding informal agreements on rotational presidency, which have helped balance power dynamics and promote inclusivity across Nigeria's diverse geopolitical zones.

Following the completion of former President Muhammadu Buhari's eight-year tenure (2015–2023) from the North, the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents the South's turn, with expectations that this arrangement should continue uninterrupted through a potential second term.

Governor Fintiri's statement comes amid ongoing national discussions on zoning, equity, and the future of Nigeria's democratic process ahead of the 2027 polls.

As a prominent northern leader and the governor of a key state, his call underscores the importance of mutual respect for established conventions to prevent division and strengthen the federation.

The Adamawa State Government remains committed to supporting policies that advance national cohesion, equitable development, and peaceful political transitions.

Governor Fintiri urged all political actors, parties, and citizens to prioritize the greater good of Nigeria by upholding principles that foster unity and shared prosperity.
