The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly selling his sister's one-month-old baby for the sum of N2 million (Two Million Naira) in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The suspect, a resident of Igbogbo in Ikorodu, was apprehended by operatives following credible intelligence and a prompt report lodged by the child's mother. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect claimed he sold the infant to raise funds for their mother's burial expenses.

The baby has since been rescued and is currently in safe custody, receiving necessary care and attention from relevant authorities. The Lagos State Police Command's Gender and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit is handling the matter to ensure thorough investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, has reiterated the Command's zero-tolerance stance on all forms of child trafficking, child stealing, and related offenses. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities involving children immediately, and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

"The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our society, especially children," the Commissioner stated. "Child trafficking is a serious crime under Nigerian law, and perpetrators will face the full weight of the law."

The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
