The Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria extend their warmest congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana as the nation proudly marks its 69th Independence Anniversary today, March 6, 2026.

On this historic occasion, commemorating Ghana's attainment of sovereignty from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957, Nigeria celebrates the remarkable journey of our brotherly neighbor.

As the first sub-Saharan African nation to achieve independence, Ghana has long served as a beacon of hope, resilience, and leadership across the continent.

Over the past 69 years, Ghana has demonstrated unwavering commitment to democratic governance, economic progress, and regional stability in West Africa.

The theme of this year's celebrations, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” reflects the nation's forward-looking vision to overcome challenges and create a brighter future for all Ghanaians.

Nigeria and Ghana share deep historical, cultural, and fraternal ties rooted in our common heritage and shared aspirations for a prosperous Africa.

Our two nations continue to collaborate closely through ECOWAS, the African Union, and bilateral frameworks to promote peace, security, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.

The President of Nigeria or on behalf of the Government of Nigeria reaffirms Nigeria's steadfast solidarity with Ghana and expresses confidence in the continued strengthening of our enduring partnership for mutual benefit and the advancement of the African agenda.

On behalf of the Government and the good people of Nigeria, we wish the Government and citizens of Ghana renewed unity, continued progress, and abundant prosperity in the years ahead.
