Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, the distinguished representative of Kaduna South Senatorial District, today confirmed a high-level courtesy visit and strategic discussion with the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), focused on the persistent and worrisome security situation in Southern Kaduna.
The meeting, which took place recently, provided an important platform to highlight the recurring incidents of violence, banditry, kidnappings, and communal clashes that have plagued communities across the senatorial district, including areas in Kajuru, Chikun, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Jema'a, and Kachia Local Government Areas.
These challenges have resulted in loss of lives, displacement of residents, disruption of farming activities, and widespread fear among the population.
During the engagement, Senator Katung presented a detailed account of the security concerns affecting his constituents and appealed for intensified military and multi-agency interventions.
He emphasized the need for:
Increased deployment of troops and rapid response capabilities to flashpoint areas
Enhanced intelligence sharing and community collaboration with security forces
Sustained operations to degrade armed groups operating in the region
Improved support for affected communities, including humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts
Senator Katung commended the Minister's demonstrated commitment to national security and his understanding of the unique dynamics in Southern Kaduna, noting the Minister's own deep-rooted connections to the region.
He expressed optimism that the discussions would translate into concrete actions to restore peace, enable safe return of displaced persons, and allow law-abiding citizens to resume normal economic and social activities without fear.
The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), reportedly reassured the Senator of the Federal Government's resolve under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to decisively tackle insecurity nationwide.
He affirmed ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination among the Armed Forces, other security agencies, and local stakeholders, with a view to delivering swift and tangible improvements in safety across vulnerable regions, including Southern Kaduna.
"This engagement marks a vital step forward in our collective push for lasting peace in Kaduna South," Senator Katung stated. "I remain dedicated to advocating for my people and working closely with relevant authorities until normalcy is fully restored."
