The Nigerian Army, under the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), today laid to rest several brave officers and soldiers killed in action while defending the nation against terrorist elements in Borno State.
The solemn interment ceremony took place at the Maimalari Military Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, led tributes to the fallen heroes, describing them as courageous, selfless patriots whose unwavering dedication and ultimate sacrifice have contributed immensely to the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the North East.
The deceased personnel lost their lives in intense engagements with insurgents, including recent attacks on military positions in areas such as Gwoza district. Their bravery in the face of adversity exemplifies the highest standards of service and commitment to Nigeria's sovereignty.
The burial was attended by senior military officers from Theatre Command Headquarters and 7 Division Nigerian Army, top government officials from Borno State, the Commander of 25 Task Force Brigade, the Chairman of Damboa Local Government Area, families and next of kin of the departed soldiers, as well as other dignitaries.
Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls and for strength and comfort to their grieving families.
Major General Abubakar reiterated the Nigerian Army's resolve to intensify operations under Operation HADIN KAI, ensuring that the sacrifices of these gallant troops are not in vain.
He assured the nation that troops remain steadfast in neutralizing terrorist threats, protecting civilian populations, and supporting the Federal Government's efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
