In a major boost to the opposition front in the South-South, former Bayelsa State Governor and prominent political leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, alongside top leaders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), today warmly welcomed a large group of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors, who crossed over en masse with their supporters, cited the APC’s failure to deliver meaningful development, rising insecurity, and economic hardship as key reasons for their decision to align with the NDC.

Speaking at the formal reception ceremony held in Port Harcourt, Senator Dickson described the development as “a clear vote of confidence in the NDC’s people-first ideology.”

“We open our arms wide to these patriotic Nigerians who have chosen progress over propaganda,” Senator Dickson stated. “The NDC stands for genuine democracy, transparency, and inclusive governance. Your arrival today strengthens our resolve to rescue our region and rebuild the trust of our people.”

NDC National Leader, Chief Timi Frank, who led the welcome delegation, echoed the sentiment: “This is not just a defection; it is a movement. These distinguished leaders and their followers have seen that the APC has lost touch with the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.

The NDC is ready to work with them to deliver the change our people truly deserve.”  The defectors, led by several former APC local government chairmen, ward leaders, and youth coordinators from Rivers and Bayelsa States, pledged unwavering loyalty to the NDC and its leadership.

“This decision was born out of deep reflection and the desire for real development,” said one of the defectors’ spokespersons. “Under Senator Dickson and the NDC, we see hope for a better South-South and a renewed Nigeria.”

The ceremony concluded with the formal presentation of NDC membership cards to the new members and a unity march through the streets of Port Harcourt.

The NDC leadership described the development as the beginning of a larger wave of realignment that will reshape the political landscape ahead of future elections.
