Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will fully support and endorse whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a recent interview, Atiku Abubakar, who is himself a leading presidential aspirant on the ADC platform, emphasised the importance of party unity and a transparent, competitive selection process.
“We will support and endorse whoever emerges as the flag bearer,” he said. “How many are we (presidential aspirants), three or four? It is not something we can predetermine. Whoever emerges through free and fair contests, we are all going to support.”
The former Vice President stressed that no aspirant would be imposed on the party and affirmed his readiness to back even a younger candidate if such a person wins the party’s nomination through democratic primaries.
Atiku’s statement comes as the ADC continues to consolidate as a major opposition platform, attracting prominent political figures ahead of the 2027 polls. He urged all stakeholders to prioritise the party’s collective interest and the broader goal of offering Nigerians a credible alternative in the next general election.
The African Democratic Congress is expected to hold its presidential primaries in due course, with several high-profile aspirants already expressing interest in the ticket.
Atiku Abubakar reiterated his commitment to democratic principles within the party, noting that internal competition should strengthen rather than divide the ADC as it prepares to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
