President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today commissioned the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, marking a historic milestone in Nigeria’s aviation and infrastructure development. The President also unveiled Gateway Air, Ogun State’s new state-owned airline, along with its two newly acquired aircraft and an integrated cargo facility, as part of a broader push to transform Ogun into a leading hub for aviation, logistics, and investment.
The Gateway International Airport, strategically located along the Iperu-Ilishan Road, is designed to serve as a modern gateway for passenger and cargo operations, enhancing connectivity across the Southwest and beyond.
During the high-profile event, President Tinubu formally commissioned the airport complex, the cargo terminal, and the inaugural aircraft fleet for Gateway Air, which will be operated in partnership with ValueJet to ensure immediate commercial viability.
Accompanying the President were Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and other top government officials. The visit also included the commissioning of additional landmark projects, including the 30MW Independent Power Plant at Onijanganjangan near Ewekoro, as well as major road infrastructure such as the Ilishan-Iperu Road, Sagamu-Iperu-Ode Remo-Sapade Road, and the Gateway International Airport access road.
Governor Dapo Abiodun described the developments as a fulfilment of Ogun State’s aviation vision. “Our aviation vision for Ogun State goes beyond the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport.
The unveiling of Gateway Air and its aircraft, alongside the cargo facility, marks another bold step in positioning Ogun State as a key destination for aviation, logistics, and investment,” he stated.
The projects, initiated and completed under Governor Abiodun’s administration, are expected to generate significant economic opportunities, create jobs, attract foreign and local investors, and boost trade and tourism in the Gateway State.
President Tinubu’s presence at the event underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting state-led infrastructure initiatives that align with national development goals.
